Distillers One of One Auction

We are delighted to unveil two remarkable releases for the coveted Distillers One of One auction of 2023.

In partnership with Sotheby’s The Distillers One of One auction brings together an unparalleled collection of one-off, never-to-be-repeated Scotch whiskies from distilleries across Scotland.

Proceeds from the auction will principally go to The Youth Action Fund, which aims to transform lives of the most disadvantaged young people in Scotland, by empowering them to develop their confidence, resilience, and skills, ultimately preparing them for a successful life and career.

LITTLEMILL - DECENNIA

One lucky collector will have the chance to own a piece of rare whisky history from our Littlemill Distillery. Decennia presents a trio of Littlemill liquids from the 70s, 80s, and 90s. This marks the first time these final three decades of Littlemill liquid will be presented together.

The collection was hand-selected by our Master Blender, Michael Henry and pays homage to the very final decades of the distillery, which began in 1772 in West Dunbartonshire in Scotland, when Robert Muir was granted the first license to ‘retail beer, ale, and excisable liquors’ from King George III, making Littlemill Scotland’s oldest licensed distillery.

Each vintage, including a 1977 (49.6% ABV), 1984 (46.7% ABV), and 1990 (48.5% ABV), has been finished for a minimum of four years in Oloroso sherry casks, the traditional choice for Littlemill, which complements its signature floral and delicate lowland style, and offers a captivating taste of another era of time.

The decanters will be housed in a bespoke handmade cabinet, which draws inspiration from the staves of the three casks selected by the Master Blender. The liquid is showcased in three newly commissioned 70cl Glencairn handblown crystal decanters bearing three delicate cuts in homage to three decades of whisky-making history.

Michael Henry our Master Blender commented: “We are incredibly proud to be working with Distillers One of One and have developed a truly unparalleled collection of whiskies which will offer a single custodian the opportunity to explore the final chapters of Littlemill.

“‘Decennia’ pays homage to time, and each treasured drop from the 70s, 80s and 90s will provide a window into bygone eras and the pioneering spirit of Littlemill. It is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to own a rare piece of Scottish whisky-making heritage before it is consigned to history once and for all."

GLEN SCOTIA - 49 YEAR OLD SINGLE MALT

Our 49 Year Old Glen Scotia bottling is a masterpiece, featuring extraordinary whisky drawn from the distillery’s oldest remaining cask reserves. The customised packaging showcases the work of the distillery’s artist in residence, Alice Angus.

Distilled in 1973, this remarkable liquid has been gently matured exclusively in American oak casks, following traditional methods. This allows it to embody the renowned subtle maritime character of Campbeltown, offering custodians a rare glimpse into the history of this iconic distillery.

The lot will be presented in an exquisite 70cl Glencairn decanter crafted from 30% lead crystal, enclosed in a bespoke walnut case meticulously crafted by expert carpenters.

Within the case, Alice Angus has hand painted three maple panels using watercolour and acrylic, carefully selecting pigments to reflect the rich, golden colour of the whisky. Multiple layers emulate the depth of the Glen Scotia story.

Created entirely for the Distillers One of One auction, the artwork is named ‘The Knowledge of Years’ and provides a captivating window into the distillery’s heart, making the lot not only a collector’s item but also a true work of art.

Also included in the donation is a one-of-a-kind framed artwork ‘Heart of the Run’ from Alice Angus and Glen Scotia’s ‘Spirit Safe’ exhibition. The exhibition was launched following Alice’s Glen Scotia residency, where she spent multiple weeks capturing the essence of the fifth whisky region, its history, unique coastal landscape, and its most award-winning and enduring distillery. ‘Heart of the Run’ was inspired by the heat, steam, smells and sounds of the still room, and the knowledge involved in the creation of whisky, knowing at just the right moment when it is ready.
