Loch Lomond Group expands into China Duty Free

Independent distiller, Loch Lomond Group (LLG), has secured the listing of its Loch Lomond Whisky and Glen Scotia brands into China Duty Free for the first time. Following a deal with China Duty Free Group (CDFG), a number of expressions from the premium ranges are now available in Shanghai and Beijing International Airports. It is estimated that over 95 million passengers travel through Beijing International Airport each year, with an additional 70 million through Shanghai. The expansion into China Duty Free follows the entry into the domestic Chinese market by LLG in 2017. The latest deal will support the ongoing development of the single malt whisky market in China, which has grown in strength in recent years. CDFG staff have completed training by Cathy Wu, North Asia Regional Director at LLG, to support the entry of each brand into the mainland Chinese airports. Loch Lomond Group first launched its global travel retail range at Glasgow Airport’s World Duty Free (WDF) store in 2017. Since then the products have been rolled out across Europe, North and South America, Middle East and Asia including most recently in China. As the official Sprit of The Open, Loch Lomond Whiskies will also bring a series of golf inspired limited edition expressions to airports around the world this year. André De Almeida, GTR managing director at LLG, said: “We are very pleased with the success of our global travel retail collections. Since launching just two years ago, we have reached thousands of customers world-wide. China was the next logical step in our expansion. “Working in partnership with CDFG and our Asian GTR distributors, MG Cellars, we have been able to bring a taste of Scotland to China’s main international airports.” The independent distiller based in Alexandria, near Loch Lomond, has become more prominent in Asia in recent years, but has ambitions to strengthen its presence in the growing market. To further enhance awareness among Chinese consumers, and particularly the Chinese traveller, LLG will attend the Tax Free World Association China’s Century Conference – one of the largest travel retail events in the country this March.
